Organized Rubbish Is Still Rubbish

I think we’ve all been caught up in the midst of the whole organized rubbish centre. The thing is that some words or things are strung together, and they sound like they mean something. And sometimes you bring these things, buzzwords, or unnecessary things into your business or your tools. You try to create something, but no one can understand it. You think that these words or these things or the way you set things up is helping people. It sounds polished and clean, but it doesn’t do anything for anyone. If you’re creating something that is going to be used mainly externally, you want to make things as simple as possible. You want to reduce the time that someone uses to try to understand whatever it is you’re trying to portray or send to them. They’re supposed to come into your tool, log in, do the things that they need to do, and get out. But they spend so much time trying to understand the things you’ve written, the copy in your tools, how you’re structured, everything.

If you haven’t spent any time understanding the user behavior or looked at how your people work, then what are you doing? I’m not a UI/UX designer, it’s something I’ll always say, but if you’re moving from a more traditional tool to a custom setup, you’re going to try as much as possible to replicate some things that were very prevalent in those traditional tools. Because as much as people want a simpler thing, they want to move, they still want that level of familiarity. You don’t reimagine your own wheel or centre and create all of these things. You have so many features, so many automations, you’ve combined everything in the world, you’ve put everything, and it becomes overwhelming.
