Segments

Video and blog segments.

This series is a preparation process for building or rebuilding systems, operational tools, and processes, where we look at the end goal, the steps it’ll take to get there, and everything we should consider. It looks at who we’re building it for and why we’re building it this way.

This is all about picking the right-sized solutions instead of assuming one size fits all. Things can be implemented much differently depending on the needs, size, technical ability, or even the operational maturity of the business or team. Likewise with complexity and customisation, we decide how much complexity is appropriate for different situations.

A tool you really like might not be the right solution for you or your people. Choosing tech/tools should be about whether the business solution fits the environment it’s being introduced into. It checks whether we’re choosing features over practicality.

This segment is about identifying and removing things that no longer serve you, your people, and your business. Accumulated tools, subscriptions, automation, certain habits, and duplicate tools.

This segment is about moving data, systems, and processes safely. Migration could affect people, processes, permissions, and all the fun things, so we want to make sure we’re doing it right.

Businesses need solutions that match their budget. This segment is about making decisions that balance cost, value, and long-term growth for businesses and teams without overspending or underbuilding.

Rather than follow things blindly or promises from every new tool, feature, or update, we want to separate the useful from the not so useful.

This segment is about recognising when complexity becomes an issue. When businesses add several tools, automation, people, or processes, things become more difficult to manage.

This segment is all about looking at the layers of the problem, beyond the symptoms, and investigating what they’re connected to. Slow down, ask better questions, and discover the issues before moving tools, changing processes, or redesigning.

This segment is a collection of observations about business, people, teams and operations. Sometimes two completely different ideas end up describing exactly the same behaviour.

Chatty Dentist

Your dentist has your mouth open and sticks his tools there while asking you questions which you cannot properly answer, of course.

So this segment is about resisting the pressure to provide those answers before enough information has been gathered. Looks at estimation, requirements gathering, discovery sessions, and the importance of understanding before buying

Nine Women Can't Make a Baby in a Month

This segment is about understanding the relationship between time, resources and realistic delivery. Some activities must happen in sequence.
