How Do You Know Things Are Going Well?

I speak a lot about knowing when things are wrong in your business, but how do you know that things are going well? At the start of every quarter, year, month, or whenever, you have certain goals that you’re trying to meet. You have certain metrics that you want to track. If you’re able to consistently get the best results and accurate information from the tools that you’ve set up about how your team members are working, about the number of projects you’ve handled, the number of deliverables you’ve produced, assets you’ve created, and all of these things, then you’re in a good place. Let’s say you want to see if you performed better than last year. Remember, all data is in the past. So we want to see how we performed in previous years and compare that with the current year.

Now, we’re looking at this depending on the type of team you’re working with. Let’s say you’re working with a marketing team. You want to see how many emails or newsletters you sent, how many sales messages you sent, how many campaigns you ran that quarter or that year. You want to see how long it took your people to create those things compared to the previous month or previous quarter. If you don’t want to get so granular, you might just want to see how many ads you created and the performance of those ads. And if you were able to track them properly.

If you can see all of this, then you know that there are no major issues. Your people are consistently inputting this information. They are not skipping steps. It’s an enjoyable process for them. They love using the tools. They talk positively about them because if people enjoy using the tools, it’s going to be very visible, and more people will want to use them because they don’t feel any friction when using them.
