How to Track Project Health in Wrike

Project health tracking is a report you build deliberately. Here is one of the cleanest implementations of project health reporting.

Each Project Blueprint includes a dedicated Project Health folder. Inside that folder are tasks that use a Project Health Custom Item Type. The Custom Item Type includes a Project Health workflow and a set of custom fields representing different health areas such as schedule, budget, scope, quality assurance, team, and technical. Each field is populated with a red, yellow, or green status indicator.

The Project Owner assigns a due date to each health task set to the end of the appropriate month. At the end of each month, an automation sends the Project Owner a notification to complete the health update for that period. The owner fills in each health field, adds a description summarising the overall project status for the month, and notes explanations for any field that is red or yellow.

Once the health task is complete, the Project Owner changes the status to Reported. This triggers a notification to their manager, confirming the health update is ready for review.

Start by defining your health categories. These should match what your organisation reviews. Stakeholders asking about schedule, budget, and team capacity every month means those are your fields. Create the Project Health Custom Item Type at the account or space level depending on who will use it, configure the workflow with at minimum an In Progress and Reported status, and set up the automation to notify owners at the right point in the month.

The dashboard view requires a reporting layer, either a Wrike Report or a Wrike Analyze widget, that pulls the health fields across all active projects. Once built, it updates automatically as owners complete their monthly tasks.
