Progressive Elaboration

When I start a project, I probably do not have all the details firsthand. But as we go forward, as we communicate or discuss with the client, carry out an audit of their workspace, and look at all their tools, then we begin to have a better understanding of how they handle things and how things are. As we go on, I think things become clearer. But with the work that we do, if you’ve worked with a particular industry, if you’ve worked with similar teams of that size, or with those tools, you already have a good picture in your head of the kind of problems that you might encounter.

You don’t need all the pieces to see the picture. You don’t need all the pieces on the table to see the picture. You can take a look, bring this together, bring that together, and as you progress, all the pieces fall into place. And for all the pieces to fall into place, you, as the client or the business I’m working with, have to work with me. You have to provide all the information that I need. You have to give me access to all of these things. Without all of this, I cannot look at the situation and make an informed decision or provide a recommendation based on the things that I’m seeing.
