One of the things I always say is to get really good at the simple, to have the simplest layout possible. And we have to understand that. It’s not that we’re not going to add features, but we have to understand the reason that we need these custom tools, or the reason that we set up these traditional tools.
A lot of the problems that I come across are people who say their current setup is too complicated. They have to do so many things that they end up doing nothing at all. You have to input this, and this, and this, and that. So one of the requirements is something very simple. They don’t want anything complicated, or something that warrants a lot of automations and all of that. They just need something simple where people can come in. If their primary activity is to update something, they update it easily. If it’s to close something, they can close it. If it’s to add something, they’re able to add it simply and easily. It is my job to make that happen. And for us to arrive at something simple, I have to speak with you and your people. You have to let me know your requirements, your list of non-negotiables. And we’ll look at them, prioritize them.
If you have different teams or different regions, the priorities might differ. And we’re going to work to see how we can make a unique view for each person so that immediately they log in, they see the main thing they’re supposed to do. Then we have the other supporting or secondary activities close by. We want them to be able to see it and do it. We don’t want our people to continually fill out details that should be pre-filled. So we’re going to look for a tool, or set it up in a way, that pre-fills that information for us. For this to happen, give me your list of non-negotiables, then your list of primary and secondary activities, and we’ll prioritize and make a unique view for each person so that when they log in, they see the main thing they’re supposed to do.
